Shopping For Car Insurance In The UK

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By Mary Simone Just like with shopping for just about everything else in the UK, finding the best deals on car insurance is as quick and easy as the click of a mouse. The Internet has brought the world to your fingertips, and its about time you began to utilize it, especially when it comes to items like car insurance that require comparison shopping in order for you to get the best deal. With this in mind, here are a few tips to keep in mind when shopping for car insurance in the UK. First things first: One item of consideration thats more important than price is service. If you dont believe me, think about this: what good would the best policy with the best price be if your claim took months to process? What if your dozens of phone calls in which you left messages go unreturned? A delay in any shape or form is an inconvenience for you, and any inconvenience that you have to deal with will eventually cost you money. This item brings us to the next one on our list: price. Since price is second on our list, be aware of hidden costs and fees that can be attached to some policies. If one policy seems so expensive that there must be something wrong, youre probably right. Dont be afraid to ask any potential insurer for an offer for insurance in writing so that you can easily compare and contrast all of your options. Be sure to inform your potential insurer of all motor vehicles that you currently own and operate to make sure that your prices will remain as low as the initial quote. If your auto has extra options like anti-lock brakes or an anti-theft device, be sure to mention it. If your auto has letters after the name, like a Corolla LE, be sure to mention the letters, for they will have an impact on the final cost. Finally, always buy your auto insurance from a company that you can trust, one that youve heard of and have heard good things about. One or two disgruntled customers can make their opinion known to the world much quicker than 100 happy ones, so youll need to do a bit of research if you have any doubts. Of course, with so many potential insurers out there begging for your business, there are scores of Internet sites that will do the comparison and price shopping for you. These sites offer their services for free, as the insurer pays them on commission when you choose their policy. They will relay all pertinent information to you and you pick the policy that suits your needs the most, all without doing anything more than clicking a mouse. Fly Fishing: A Worldwide Sport

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

By James Wills Fly fishing is a great sport enjoyed by fisherman all over the world. This method of fishing requires artificial flies, and a rod that is very flexible. The sport of fly fishing has been around since at least 200 A.D. The first knowledge of the sport is found in books written during that time period. Today the sport remains very popular. Most people fly fish for trout, salmon, and bass. Fly fishing differs from regular fishing because you dont use a heavy lure and a light line. Instead, using a fake fly on the end of the line, you cast out a heavy line with a thinner leader on the end. Often a color of ribbon, thread, or fur is tied to the fly. This gives fish the impression that what they see is a bug that they eat. Fly fishing lines are much heavier than regular fishing line, but are often designed to float. There are two types of fly fishing. Dry fly fishing involves the fly remaining on the surface of the water. Wet water fly fishing involves sinking the fly down into the water. Both methods are very effective. The use of the techniques is up to the person fishing and the circumstances. Fly fishing is practiced throughout the United States and Canada. The most common states for fly fishing are Montana, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, California, and Alaska. This is because of the amount of fish flowing through the Rocky Mountain area. West Yellowstone is considered the major hub for great fly fishing. More fish are caught here than any other location. Areas of Canada including Alberta as well as other water areas throughout the world are great locations for fly fishing. This sport of fly fishing continues to be very popular, with no sign of letting up any time soon. Fly fishing enthusiasts spend lots of time and money fly fishing. They buy the best equipment and travel to the best fishing locations, hoping to be lucky enough to catch that great fish swimming upstream. By Lisa Koosis In warmer months, yard sales draw many folks each year. Food Combining for Indigestion

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

By Chet Day I’d like to share with you some basic food combining rules as set forth by the late Dr. Herbert Shelton many years ago. A couple of comments before we get to the rules. First, the medical establishment says you’re wasting your time if try food combining to help gas and indigestion problems. Instead of paying attention to the types of foods you eat (combine) together, the folks in white coats claim you can cure your gas and indigestion problems by popping pills or swallowing some prescription goop. Unfortunately, besides being expensive and unnatural, these prescription and over-the-counter “cure” of course have side effects that are often as bad as the gas or indigestion you’re trying to solve. Well, to the naysayers who roll their eyes and turn up their noses to food combining, I have a very simple test. Try the natural approach of food combining for one week, and if your gas and indigestion problems don’t improve dramatically, I’d be quite surprised. Basic Food Combining Rules * Eat acids and starches at separate meals. Acids neutralize the alkaline medium required for starch digestion and the result is fermentation and indigestion. * Eat protein foods and carbohydrate foods at separate meals. Protein foods require an acid medium for digestion. * Eat but one kind of protein food at a meal. * Eat proteins and acid foods at separate meals. The acids of acid foods inhibit the secretion of the digestive acids required for protein digestion. Undigested protein putrefies in bacterial decomposition and produces some potent poisons. * Eat fats and proteins at separate meals. Some foods, especially nuts, are over 50% fat and require hours for digestion. * Eat sugars (fruits) and proteins at separate meals. * Eat sugars (fruits) and starchy foods at separate meals. Fruits undergo no digestion in the stomach and are held up if eaten with foods that require digestion in the stomach. * Eat melons alone. They combine with almost no other food. * Desert the desserts. Eaten on top of meals they lie heavy on the stomach, requiring no digestion there, and ferment. Bacteria turn them into alcohols and vinegars and acetic acids. Food combining works for a lot people. It’s free, it’s simple, and you can do it yourself. Who could ask for a better gas and/or indigestion aid? Chet Day keeps a close eye on the wild and wacky world of the natural health circus. Do Aphrodisiac Foods Exist

Monday, January 14th, 2008

By Kadence Buchanan Many of us have heard that sea-food excite the human senses or that walnuts and honey are the best aphrodisiac. But do certain types of food affect the human erotic impulse? Can specific food categories be the cause of the increase or decrease of male or female libido? Is there any scientific evidence that suggests some types of foods can help the sex life of today’s individuals, or all these are just a legend that goes back to the ancient times? Although a balanced diet is considered today to be the best aphrodisiac, this article can help you spice up your life and answer some of your questions on the subject of aphrodisiac food materials. - What is the role our brain plays? The sexual disposition and activity of a person are directly related with the brain’s activity. Crucial for the transferring of sexual stimulus are considered the neurotransmitters, the chemical substances that transfer messages to and out a person’s brain. These neurotransmitters contribute to one’s good memory and ability to focus, increase the good mood one carries and improve the levels of euphoria, while at the same time they are responsible to release sexual temper. - The secrets of ancient Greeks: Ancient Greeks are legendary for the particular focus they portrayed in the dinner preparation, making it resemble to a ritual as they devoted long periods of time to eat. The information we have available show that they used all of the five senses in an effort to create a sensual environment. Moreover, the food served was carefully selected and prepared and they used to grab food with their hands, as they supported that this practice creates a very interesting sensation stimulating also the brain. Additionally, ancient Greeks were firm believers that the food on the table had to be served with the right order and paid special attention to its appearance on the plate. The food smells and appearances were considered important stimulators for the functions of a healthy brain. - Vitamin E, the “love” vitamin: As scientists and ancient civilizations have found, vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins one should consume daily. Since vitamin E protects the blood cells and directly affects the sexual activity and the fecundity of a person, it is also known as the “fertility vitamin” and is recommended by physicians to treat the reproductive organs’ malfunctions of males worldwide. Nuts, olive oil and avocado are great resources of vitamin E, and one should consume approximately 15 mg a day of these types of food. Indeed, as contemporary researchers indicate, the consumption of certain food categories is related to the activities of the human organism. Dieticians specifically state that people wanting to have a balanced sex life have to include these special types of foods in their diet. As experts agree, exercising often and maintaining a balanced diet are the secrets to reduce stress and enjoy a better and healthier sex life. Relationships: Love Vs. Infatuation

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

By Nick Arrizza, M.D. I’m sure you’ve heard the debate that attempts to separate out that which is love and that which is infatuation when it comes to relationships. If you haven’t it goes something like this: You shouldn’t rely on or trust feelings of infatuation when it comes to getting into a relationship because they are often short lived and based on misperceptions of who the other person really is. Rather you should search in your heart for the presence of genuine feelings of love as a guide to any relationship decisions you make. One problem that enters into this argument that I must emphasize however is the common belief that feelings of infatuation also arise from within the heart. If they did, you see, you would never be able to distinguish them from feelings of love because they would essentially be “on top of each other” and there would be no clarity to your emotional state. So let me make it clear then. Feelings of infatuation are associated with an experience of: mental and emotional excitement, feelings of impatience, anxiety or nervousness, feelings of neediness, lack of clarity in one’s perception of others and themselves, a tendency to make impulsive and irrational choices, and a sense of urgency. Where does all of this stem from? Well it’s based on unfulfilled emotional needs that are the result of a deprived childhood, stored in the ego or brain and/or sexual needs that are erupting at a physiological level in the body; both distracting one’s attention away from noticing whether loving feelings actually exist in the heart. When one relies on the experience of infatuation, ignores the heart’s message, and is later disappointed, the mistake that is then made is that the heart is blamed for the problem. What’s interesting is the heart was hardly even consulted and yet receives blame for something that took place at the ego/brain and/or body level. This further alienates one from one’s inner heart, which by the way is the source of all one’s inner wisdom and knowing. So what happens the next time? Well now since the heart and its message have become perceived as mistrustful it becomes shut down and so the individual feels even more uncertain of how to proceed. They have lost, so to speak, their internal compass, and therefore become increasingly vulnerable to being seduced or led astray by ego or bodily distractions. I think that you can see how the rest of the scenario plays out from here. You see that is why most individuals find themselves experiencing relationship problems and why couples counseling is such big business. Private Practice Marketing: Know Your Ideal Client

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By Jeff Herring Most business people try to market to everyone and not a specific niche. If you do not have a specific niche, then you have no one to market to. Who is your ideal client? How would your like to fill your practice with your ideal client, your favorite person with whom to work? This is so doable, yet so few people bother to do it. Your primary job here is to do two things - 1. Identify your ideal client, and 2. Get to know all that you can about your ideal client. What you need to know Here are a few of the things you must know about your ideal client: What do they look like? Where do they live? While all of the above are good questions that you need to have the answers to, their is one question we have not listed yet. If you could only ask one question, if you could only have one valuable piece of information about your ideal client, here it is: What is your ideal client’s greatest pain, what is their greatest worry, what keeps them up at night? When you know the answer to this question, you are then prepared to market to your ideal client. You will be in the top 10% in terms of the power you have to reach your ideal client. Foods That Will Allow You To Lose Weight While Snacking

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By Gregg Hall Today’s current trends of diets have people turning from carbohydrates, alcohol, and other guilty pleasures. This is causing failure in many diet attempts, but it does not have to be this way. You can enjoy many snack foods without feeling bad about your binge. The trick is learning which foods are okay for snacking. Yum! Chicken nuggets. Virtually every person craves these tasty morsels. Their fat content is horrifying, however. Instead of a fried chicken nugget, try baking them. Slice up some boneless chicken breast; dip it in a mixture of egg white and water and then coat in ground almonds or whole wheat bread crumbs. Bake at 400 for half an hour and you have a new twist on an old favorite. There is a wide array of baked potato and tortilla chips on the market. Salsa is rich in antioxidants and fat-free. You can enjoy a bowl of baked tortilla chips and serve some delicious salsa alongside it. This snack is both good for you and will satisfy your chip craving. If you prefer guacamole with your baked tortilla chips, go for it. Avocados are rich in fats that raise good cholesterol levels. If you do not like the taste of avocado try using mashed peas instead. Baby carrots served with a low-fat or no-fat dressing are an easy to make and delicious treat for any hour of the day. Cook a couple of potatoes in the microwave and then scoop out the middle flesh. Slice the remaining skin into large sections and pan fry in a skillet sprayed with non-stick spray. Serve these potato skins along with some fat-free sour cream. Popcorn is a neat treat that can be very healthy. Air pop it and eat it without butter. If the taste of unbuttered popcorn is too much, use some of the fat free butter sprays (Olivio uses a blend of olive oils that is scrumptious and available in many countries) to add a little flavor. Jell-O, a childhood favorite, is fat-free and satisfying. The sugar-free versions cut calories completely. Add a dollop of fat-free whipped cream and you have a perfect dessert. Deviled Eggs, if eaten in moderation, can be made with fat-free mayonnaise. Add some horseradish for extra zip. Pita Bread, especially if the pita bread is whole wheat, can be baked crispy and served in place of tortilla chips. Serve wedges of fresh tortilla bread with fresh vegetables and yogurt-based dips. You can also make a version of croutons using whole wheat bread, olive oil and garlic along with other desired seasonings. Bake these in an oven set at 300 for a couple hours. The resulting product is a crouton that is good for you and extremely satisfying. Regardless of your desires, there are alternatives to high-fat, bad for you snacks. Use your imagination and you will find you do not have to run crying from some of your favorite guilt foods. Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Beach, Florida. Studies Identify Relationships Between Sleep and Weight Gain (Part One)

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

By Michael Callen It is with great joy that I pen this article. It seems that every weightloss tip involves taking something enjoyable out of your diet or routine. Sure, its for our own good… and the end result is that we’ll feel better, but sometimes it really seems as though we’ve got to exercise twenty hours a day and eat nothing more than broccoli to win the battle of the bulge. This time it’s different. This time it’s special. For the next couple of issues, we’re going to discuss the importance of sleep as it relates to weight-control and fat loss. Yes, I am happy to suggest that you should sleep more and sleep better! You don’t need to be a scientist to realize how important sleep is. Simply skip it for a night and you’ll never forget why you need it. Sleep is the time that we relax, recharge, renew and renovate. For our minds, it is the time that we let the stresses of the day go so that we can start anew the next day. For our bodies, it is the time that our muscles are rested and healed. On a biochemical level, however, there is a lot more going on than just rest and repair. This is the time in which the body releases and regulates the majority of its hormones. Three main hormones have been identified as directly affecting your weight in three different and important ways. The first hormone is cortisol. If you’ve been awake at all the last several years, you’ve heard of this stress hormone and its reputation for storing away fat in the most visible ways. Cortisol is there for a reason, but changes in lifestyle have caused it to work against us. Under duress, the human body releases cortisol to provide bursts of energy, while slowing the metabolism. In a life-or-death struggle with a sabre-toothed tiger, this beneficial chemical reaction can provide additional energy needed to survive a “flee or fight” situation. Our modern, and more sedantary, lifestyles find us, more often than not, experiencing stress while at work, in traffic or at home with the kids. Because our activity level does not compensate for a lowered metabolism, the fat that we should be burning gets affixed to the beltline. The more stress we experience, the more cortisol is produced, the more fat is stored… The story is repeated day after day, and the end result is that we gain weight from stored fat. The second hormone is leptin. Leptin is know as the “satiety hormone”. If you aren’t familiar with the word “satiety” it’s root is the same as that for the word “satisfy”. When we have the proper amount of leptin in our blood, our bodies recognize that we are “full” sooner. That is, we know when to stop eating because the leptin allows us to realize that we should be satisfied. A study out of the University of Chicago published in “The Lancet” in 1999 followed a group of young men who were in good shape. This group of men were limited to only four hours of sleep during a sixteen day period. The effects were amazing: * Leptin production was down causing the men to feel excessively hungry, so much so that the men consumed an average of 1,000 additional calories each day * Cortisol levels increased so that the metabolism slowed down * Blood glucose levels increased to pre-diabetic levels, a sign that their bodies were unable to properly process carbohydrate Okay, you probably agree that you don’t want excess cortisol or a shortage of leptin in your blood. So how do you know if you are getting enough sleep? Sleep experts suggest that if you answer “yes” to these three questions, you are likely getting enough sleep: 1. Do you wake up on your own, without an alarm clock each day? 2. Are you able to function at an optimal level throughout the day without getting drowsy? 3. Are you able to fall asleep easily each night? Well, that should give you something to sleep on… we’ll continue this thread in the next issue when we look at the third hormone (human growth hormone) and how to benefit from some really smart protein powder!
