Are you Mrs. Johnson of Johnson & Johnson?

Friday, March 14th, 2008

By Michele Winslow Cleaning your home today has been made extremely easy. Just go to your local store, buy a package of cleansing cloth products to help dust or give your furniture, mirrors or windows a high shine. The problem is where do you dispose of these all-purpose cleansing cloths? An elderly neighbor of mine was dumping hers down the toilet then could not understand why her drains were clogged. She thought only disposable diapers were not to be flushed. What happen to the day when we used old clothes to clean and dust. when dirty, we wash & reused these cloths until rags really became rags and could no longer be used? Cloth diapers were later used for dusting and cleaning, Old newspapers were use to clean windows and mirrors or rolled up, and used to help light the stove or fireplace. Hems were let down, lace or ribbon added to hide the old seam line Old clothing was also torn up and made into quilts the whole family for generations could enjoy In those days, very little went to waste. With the advent of the spray can and flora-carbons, which were later discovered to be dangerous to our atmosphere, just about everyone began to use the convenience of modern cleaning products. Today, companies claim to have products, which will Clean your windows so well that birds will not realize they are there, Laundry detergents which will get your cloths sunshine bright (what happened to the old fashioned clothesline?) with outdoor freshness Our dishes will be squeaky clean Bathrooms will be germ free And, our home will smell so fresh no one will want to leave. We had hardwood floors, with area rugs, which we took out to clean at least twice a year. We cleaned our windows every spring if not more often, and we cleaned our kitchens after every meal and bathroom every day. After World War II, we wanted everything to be more convenient, we were moving into the Space Age.Factories, which manufactured war equipment, now began to mass-produced appliances, making their price affordable for everyone. Returning service men and women used their GI Bill to buy single-family homes or went to college. Many of these men and women had grown up in the great depression of the 1930s and wanted their families to have every modern convenience to make their life easier. Women could put their food in an oven, set the temperature and timer then walk away. They no longer had to put their clothes through the ringer on the washing machine. They now had portable radios in every room in the house Television become more affordable Just about every home had a telephone We were in the latter part of the 20th Century, rapidly moving into the modern space age. Today, we have become so dependent upon modern products, especially people thirty and under, that if for some reason these products were no longer available, many would not know how to clean their house or apartment. In our youth, we think we know everything and the things our parents or grandparents tell us is out of date. We dont want to know how to do things the Old Fashioned, Prehistoric, Stone age, way. We complain today of too many chemicals in the atmosphere, yet with the advent of modern cleaning solutions, we ourselves are helping, sometimes causing, the problem. So, what happened to open windows and cleansing as you go? And, as an extra bonus you got great exercise doing these daily chores. With many of our modern conveniences, we no longer get the exercise we once did, and have we also become more wasteful? Instead of buying cloth diapers and reusing them, we purchase disposable and throw them away, We purchase paper towels, which often tear as soon as we use them, then throw them away, We dry our clothes in dryers, throw in a sheet of fabric softener, use once or twice, then throw them away Purchase sheets to put on our damp mops which, once again, we use once or twice, then throw them away We no longer go to the Green Grocer to buy our vegetables & fruit or the Meat Market to have our meats cut the way we want, the Fish Market for fresh fish or have our daily products delivered fresh to our doorsteps. Now, we buy everything in the Super market, where it is wrapped in foam, paper or plastic, which we then throw away. And, what about all those plastic containers, which may take years to break down, which we throw away? We now have invented another industry, re-cycling, to take care of this problem, but does it? At the Super/Mega market, we think we are actually choosing the products we want. But in reality, we are choosing those products, which the purchasing departments think we want. So, Mrs. Johnson, when you purchase your next cleansing product, is it one you want or one, which Big Business thinks you should have? For Big Business are really the ones who decides for you which product you will use. With their high priced commercials on every channel, radio station and/or public transportation, we have become brainwashed into buying and using their product. For, as we all know, their products will Clean your floors better Make your clothes, furniture and home smell better Your meal preparations easier Your bathroom germ free Etc, etc, etc. By purchasing all of these products, you have become a distant cousin of the Johnson family, without the benefits and amenities of the monetary benefits. Notary Public: Answering Your Questions

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

By Jason Montag The Notary Public is a very important but often misunderstood or overlooked public servant. The fact is that in your everyday life you submit papers or receive papers that have gone through the hands of a notary public or maybe notaries public. In the world of notaries public there are a lot of rules to follow and a lot of procedures to go through. Just as with any complex thing in this world there will be questions that come up. There is so much information on the internet and in the community regarding notary public procedures and rules but not a lot of consistency. In addition, many places will cover one state or a couple of states but not all. The places that may have all of one type of procedure for all the states have very little if any additional material for you to look at. Over time we are going to unravel the mystery of the job of the notary public and today we will cover one frequently asked question among notaries public and that is can a Notary Public notarize a fax or a copy? The answer to this burning question is yes a photocopy or fax can be notarized. There are a couple of things that must happen to notarize a copy is that the signature must be original. The paper can be a fax or a copy but not the signature. The other thing that you must do is find out if your local public recorders that you are notarizing the document for will accept a fax with an original signature. When a person is asking for something that is turned into them to be notarized not all of them will accept a copy, many want all original documents. Another thing to consider is the type of paper the copy is made on. A lot of places put their documents on microfilm and a copy on glossy type paper will not translate well to that form of media. It is a good practice to make your copies on a regular bond paper in all cases just to be sure it will not create a problem. Notary Public procedures and rules are complex and often difficult to understand so that is why we are here. We will untangle the world of notaries public so that we can keep this public service going strong. Teddy Bears - a Brief History Lesson

Friday, March 7th, 2008

By John Gibb It is difficult to trace the history of the teddy bear, because it appears to have been invented independently at around the same time in America and in Germany. There is no possibility of copying, as communications technology at the time certainly wasnt good enough for people from opposite sides of the Atlantic to be talking to each other about toy bears it seems that teddy bears were just an idea whose time had come. For this reason, it is best to trace the American and German stories separately. In 1902 Germany, the Steiff toy company was trying to come up with new products. The owners nephew, Richard Steiff, often visited Stuttgart Zoo to get inspiration for new toys, and on one visit was particularly taken with a cute bear cub. He did lots of drawings of it, and had produced a prototype of the toy, the Steiff Bear, that year. Teddy bears got their start in America because of a widely-reported event involving President Theodore Teddy Roosevelt going hunting in that same year, 1902. According to the story, Mississippi officials, keen to please the president, took him bear hunting, but the hunt was a failure as there were no bears to be found. One of the officials then brought the president a baby bear that he had caught and invited him to make the kill, but the president refused. Two toy-makers in New York quickly made a cute-looking toy baby bear, calling it Teddys Bear and it was a runaway hit, with a huge factory built just to fulfil the demand. It is here that the two stories meet. When Steiff launched its bear at a 1903 toy fair, the American toy buyers realised that they could import this bear and capitalise on teddy bear fever. They ordered 3,000 Steiff Bears, and the bears quickly became some of the most popular teddies both in Germany and America and from there, the craze spread worldwide. Try These Natural Cough Remedies

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Paul Newland For anyone suffering coughing fits (or listening to them) these natural cough remedies may help. Natural remedies include treatment for allergies, herbs, essential oils and vaporizers. Coughs may be caused by a number of factors including allergies, vial infections and chemical infections. If there is a fever present, it may be caused by an allergy to milk. In order to find out if you have an allergy, you can perform a pulse test on yourself after drinking milk, take your pulse at 15, 30 and 60 minutes and if your pulse rises by more tan 10 beats per minute, you may have an allergy. If you have trouble sleeping, steam vaporizers may help with sleep at night. Essential oils including black pepper, cardamom, cedar wood, cypress, Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata, frankincense, Helichrysium, lemon, peppermint, pine, rosemary and sandalwood may all help. These oils may be diffused into a room, inhaled or applied as a rub. Herbs may be very helpful including: English plantain, licorice, thyme, sweet chestnut and comfrey. A mixture of ginger, honey and lemon as a hot mixture may be just as beneficial in place of cough syrup. Make it up as a tea by first boiling some water and pouring it into a small thermos (about a litre or a quart). To this add some grated ginger and then four tablespoons each of lemon and honey. A moderate a moderate amount of exercise is always beneficial for natural cough remedies. dont overdo it, particularly if the cough is in conjunction with a cold or fever. If the cough persists, consult your health care practitioner. Paul Newland is a health writer, sports training consultant and martial arts instructor and manages the Global-Longevity.com website. How to Solve a Wonderful Mystery

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By Paul Griffitts The first issue we must recognize is the way God uses the word Gentile in His Word. The context will usually show you how the words are meant to be used. In addition, the scope of the particular section of a book must be accounted for. Before and after Acts 28:28 there are Gentile believers spoken of in the Bible some are called a wild olive branch while others are called The Church which is His Body, Why? The Apostle Paul’s epistles usually use the word Gentile meaning the Gentile believers in the many synagogues. The usage of Gentiles in Romans is especially of interest. Failing to discern this usage in Romans has caused much dismay over many years. It was the Gentile believers, who attended the synagogues, which were grafted into the olive tree, the olive tree being Israel. These were the Gentiles Paul spoke to in his Acts ministry with possibly 3 exceptions. Taking a look at the scope of Acts, we see that the ministry to the Gentiles was for the benefit of Israel; God was not at that particular time interested in saving the Gentiles. God told Israel, in Romans 10:19, “But, I say, did not Israel know?” First Moses said, “I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.” Yes, the Gentiles were blesses for Israel’s sake. But after Acts the Gentiles were blessed because there was no Israel. They became the center of God’s plan, even as Israel had been God’s chosen people before now. The purpose of provoking Israel was not made known to them at the first, either by Peter at Cornelius’ house, or by Paul at Antioch. Paul tells the Jews in Acts 13:47 that they had been chosen to be a light unto the Gentiles, but since they had rejected their King and His kingdom he turned to the Gentiles. He did not say here that the salvation of God was sent to the Gentiles. Salvation was still for the Jews (John 4:22), and had not yet been sent to the Gentiles (Acts 28:28). This shows us why Paul wrote in Acts 26:22, 23 that in all he did from the beginning of his ministry until that time, he has said no other thing than those things which Moses and the prophets said. This was all the will of God not the Apostles choice or his own ministry. Now what did Moses and the prophets say? That Christ should suffer, be the firstborn from the dead and show light to Israel and the Gentiles. This is not the mystery which had been hid in God from ages and generations. Paul could quote chapter and verse from the Jewish Bible to prove what he said. From the beginning of Acts the twelve Apostles continued what the Lord both began to do and to say. Paul simply continued that same ministry; for it was what he saw (Acts 26:16). Throughout Acts Paul preached what he had seen and heard the twelve Apostles preaching. That was his theme also. The Apostle Paul needed a vision concerning the scope of that ministry. Peter had the same experience. Peter was told to go preach to the house of Cornelius. Peter did not change his gospel he just preached it to somebody else, the Gentiles. So it was with Paul. He preached his gospel of the King and kingdom to the Jews first, and then to the Gentiles. Paul did not require the Gentiles to be circumcised and keep the law. They were blessed with Israel thru Abraham by grace without the addition of the law. This was Paul’s gospel of the grace of God. But that ended in Acts 28:28. Acts 28:28 declares the salvation of God was sent to the Gentiles, and this salvation was not the blessings of the kingdom, but rather the Church with Christ as Head. Reflections on a Difficult Gospel Passage: Upon This Rock

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Saundra L. Washington And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Matthew 16:18. I understand rock in this passage to mean Christ. Jesus alluding to the name of Peter calls Himself that rock upon which He was to build His church. In confessing Christ as the Son of the living God, Peter acknowledged the true rock and foundation. Supporting Scripture includes 1 Corinthians 10:3-4 and 1 Corinthians 3:11: They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. The text, in my view, could very well be translated: The Church being built upon Christ the solid Rock will stand and neither the power of hell nor Satans rage will be able to subvert and destroy it. After considering both the Protestant and Catholic traditional interpretations of this teaching of Jesus and taking into account the Greek translation and play on words Peter and rock Stein (Robert) concludes that rock most likely refers to Peter. He qualifies his interpretation by pointing out that Peter performed in a leadership capacity in the early church and that it is in this role and in his witness of the gospel that Peter is the foundation upon which the church is built. Whereas Stein makes it clear that Peter is the rock in the sense that without the apostles (and Peter was the leader in the beginning) there would be no church, I regard Christ as the rock in the sense that without Christ there would be no church. John McKenzie argues that the rock refers to Peters confession that Jesus is indeed the Messiah. He notes that the confession had already been anticipated by Matthew in 14:33 and that this passage clearly indicates the special position of Peter among the disciples, which he contends, is sufficiently supported by texts in other Biblical books. He suggests further that in return for his confession of faith, Peter is awarded this special position. Van Elderen, like Stein, observes the Greek play on words which he feels is common in Semitic languages and that Jesus actually meant that Peter is the rock, in the sense of solidity, strength and steadfastness and upon which other rocks (apostles) are joined to constitute a secondary foundation, upon which Christ would build His Church. All of us must draw some conclusions of understanding that we can live with. We want the truth, we seek the truth. With this in mind, please beware of approaching Scripture with preconceived notions. Lighting Therapies to Cure Winter Depression

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Michael Russell SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) also defined as winter depression, is a serious condition that has as a cause the lack of bright light during the winter days. No wonder that this form of depression is treated with light therapy. The incidence of SAD is higher in the northern regions of the Globe, due to their long winter nights. Statistically women are more affected than men are. The illness has serious repercussions on the general well being of the patient; hormonal disorders (including worsened PMS symptoms for women), weight gain and tendency to overeat and sleeping disorders (oversleep). Yes, you’ve got that right: SAD is not a typical melancholic depression. Because SAD is caused by the absence of light it is only natural that light therapy (as a non-invasive remedy) is preferred to treat this depression. The idea is to replace the amount of light found in normal summer days with artificial light. The most important is the intensity of the light and not its color spectrum. Therapeutic light is up to 40 times brighter than normal room lights. Many people who suffer from SAD purchase some light boxes (although therapists will argue that inappropriate exposure might lead to secondary effects: disturbances in the retina, anxiety, etc) and use them while they fulfill normal daily tasks: watching TV, doing laundry, reading or eating. The patients are advised not to stare into the light, but to perform these tasks as if they would be in the presence of ordinary light. The duration of the treatment varies from one week to maximum three weeks and many patients use the light boxes the whole winter, each day. SAD might recur; so many patients choose to keep their light boxes for further use. If you suffer from SAD and intend to purchase a light box, but you are disturbed by the high price, you should know that some health insurance companies do reimburse for the purchase of the light boxes. It is wise to call your health insurer and ask whether there is coverage for such a purchase in your policy or not. Just remember: light therapy will just improve your condition, but there are no warranties that it will cure your depression. As a matter of fact, no antidepressant cures the disorder. When light therapy doesn’t relieve your symptoms you should consult your physician again and ask for treatment alternatives. He or she might recommend medication, in addition to light therapy and not to replace it. If you don’t suffer from SAD or any other depression for that matter, but you would still like to bring more light into your home during winter (or maybe just when your windows are not large enough to let in the proper amount of natural light), you could always purchase a light box made of high power LEDs. Compared to the white fluorescent light boxes, LED light boxes have the advantage of reducing energy costs while emitting light in the same brightness. Many such devices are cheaper than their fluorescent counterparts and if you don’t need bright light, you can always dim the LEDs. What You Need to Know About Using an Online Pharmacy

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jay_Moncliff] Jay Moncliff Once you have entered all of your information from prescription number to your name and address, as well as other identifying factors, the online pharmacy website will ask you for your insurance payment information as well as how you want to pay for the prescription. Some online pharmacies will allow you to either pay online or at the store for in store pickup. However, if you are ordering for delivery from the online pharmacy you will have to pay online. Always be sure your online pharmacy has a secure checkout system. You can be sure of this if in the direction bar it says https:// rather than just http://. That extra s means the page is secure and you can enter your payment information without the stress of wondering whether your information will be stolen while using the online pharmacy. An online pharmacy is generally the web presence of your general pharmacy. However, you should always check for verification of your online pharmacy before you place any orders. You will want to make sure your online pharmacy is a Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Site as is defined by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. If you have any questions or concerns about an online pharmacy then find another online pharmacy that seems more legit or can at least answer your questions. When you search for online pharmacy on the Internet you will get plenty of results from some of the bigger chains.
